Chelsea are set to continue their search for Europe's hottest striker, and are reportedly considering making an approach for Bayern Munich power-house Mario Gomez, according to CaughtOffside.
The German international is high on Abramovich's wish-list as he looks to beef up his attacking options, if the signing of Falcao falls through. Chelsea believe they have a high chance of signing the German forward due to the recent form of new Bayern striker Mario Mandzukic.
Gomez has sat out with an inury for parts of the season, whilst Mandzukic has gone on to score 11 goals in 12 apperances for the Bavarian outfit.
Mario Gomez finished as Bayern Munich’s top scorer for the past two seasons, netting 39 and 41 goals respectively in 2010/11 and 2011/12. However Jupp Heynckes opted to sign Croatian international Mandzukic after he impressed during the Euro 2012 finals.
Jupp Heynckes see's the two forwards too similar to play along side each other this season, and is reportedly ready to listen to offers in January for their star man – if Mandzukic can continue his fine form.
Bayern Munich paid around £30m to land Gomez in the summer of 2009 and Chelsea are willing to offer a fee in the region of €50m (£40m) to tempt the German giants into a sale.
