Chelsea have joined the race for St Etienne striker Peirre-Emerick Aubameyang, with Roman Abramovich sending scouts to watch the 23 year old in action last Friday.

Chelsea have joined clubs monitoring St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The European champions had scouts watch the 23-year-old on Friday night as Aubameyang scored his 17th goal of the season in his side's 2-2 draw with Rennes. He is under contract until 2016 but has already declared his intent to leave in the summer with Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund also watching regularly.

Aubameyang had this to say on his future.

"I am ready for anything", he told Le 10 Sport.

"Two years ago I scored two goals per season…

“If I have to leave, I would like to go to an intermediate club, this would allow me not to take the plunge straight away, unless I have a really good proposal at a club where I can play.”

Although Chelsea signed striker Demba Ba during the January transfer window, it is believed Fernando Torres is still on his way out. Chelsea have had success finding talent in Ligue 1, most recently in the form of Eden Hazard from Lille OSC.
