Chelsea and Manchester City are on alert after it was understood from reports that Paul Pogba rejected an initial contract offer from Juventus.

The 22-year-old midfielder has become one of the hottest properties in football but Juventus accept they will struggle to retain their talismanic player with a number of clubs looking to lure the player away with the offer of mega terms. A report in the Mail states that the sale is being seriously considered as a way to bankroll a further strengthening of the squad with Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola willing to entertain bids in the region of £58million.

The report says that Real Madrid have made enquiries, as have Barcelona (despite their active transfer ban) with the player looking for personal terms that improve on his reported new offer of £210,000-per-week.

The Mirror hints at a summer long saga with a host of clubs looking to outbid the other to secure the player and suggests that City are plotting a £50+million bid to bring the player to the Etihad. The report suggests that City have made the player their top target and believe they can offer more than Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona (?) and PSG.

City may find it difficult to stay within FFP with such ambitions and will find the summer complicated with players likely to have to move on to not be hit again with sanctions. The player who left Manchester United as a free agent in 2012 could well find himself one of the central figures in this summers transfer battles.
