Juan Cuadrado has been a wanted man since his performances at the World Cup put Colombia in a strong position. As one of the players of the tournament a lot of transfer rumours have since linked him with some of Europe’s biggest clubs although the player was retained by Fiorentina in the summer.

According to reports in the Evening Standard Chelsea are in a race against time to thrash out a January contract for the Colombian winger who has some great variety in his approach play and will be able to deliver a variety of ball to Costa and co.

The reason for the sudden urgency to get a deal done appears to be the favourable situation with regard the Euro exchange rate and his €35m release clause which will have effectively dropped in value from £26.8m to £26.1m in just the last few days, as well as his release clause.

Chelsea are said to be unwilling to pay such a price but with the clause expiring in just a few days it could prove the cheapest option rather than have the release fee dictated by Fiorentina.

The 26-year-old winger joined Fiorentina from Udinese in 2012 where he has gone on to make 85 league appearances including 20 league goals. Caudrado has made 23 starts in all competitions this term and contributed 6 goals. Fiorentina are currently 6th in the Serie A championship.
