Chelsea FC star John Obi Mikel charged with drink driving
Mikel, 21, was pulled over by officers while driving his Range Rover near the club's Stamford Bridge stadium in west London at 5.30am on Saturday morning. [LNB]The £40,000-a-week midfielder, who lives in Surrey, was given a breath test and put in a police cell. [LNB]He had been charged and bailed by the time Chelsea beat Ipswich 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. Nigerian international Mikel was serving a one match suspension for accruing five yellow cards, so was not available to play in the match. [LNB]He faces a minimum of a year's driving ban and a maximum of six months in jail with a £5,000 fine if convicted. He is due to appear in court in April. [LNB]A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "John Obi Mikel, 21, from Weybridge, will appear on bail at West London Magistrates Court on April 3 charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst over the limit." [LNB]A spokesman for Chelsea FC said: "We are aware he was arrested and charged. We want to establish the facts before we comment."[LNB]
