Chelsea have emerged as favourites to sign the La Liga goal machine with claims the player is unsettled by changes at the club and rumours that the rumoured incoming boss will look to make changes up-front.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the reigning Ballon d'Or holder with the dominance of Real Madrid last season but this season has seen the most expensively assembled club in the world finish a season empty-handed which resulted in the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti. The Telegraph reports that Rafa Benitez, who everyone believes is poised to succeed Ancelotti is prepared to sideline Ronaldo in favour of Gareth Bale and put Ronaldo out on the wing but this may not be acceptable to the forward.

Ronaldo could return to the Premier League with Manchester United also interested in their former star but Chelsea, says the report in the Metro are ‘favourites’. Ronaldo has been linked with a £71.5m transfer fee which sounds excessive given his age but not impossible given his huge marketing pull.

Cristiano Ronaldo joined Real Madrid in 2009 and has scored an incredible 225 La Liga goals in 200 appearances. He has won the Champions League twice, with Manchester United in 2007-08 and Real Madrid in 2013-14.

Ronaldo would be a good fit for the Premier League with Chelsea having won the title on three occasions with Manchester United in three consecutive campaigns from 2006-2009.
