Chelsea deny £52m bid claims for Sergio Aguero and Diego Godin

Chelsea have not made a £52million bid for Atletico Madrid pair Sergio Aguero and Diego Godin, despite claims to the contrary by the Spanish club.[LNB]Atletico's majority shareholder Miguel Angel Gil claimed that the Barclays Premier League champions attempted an audacious double-swoop for the duo in the past week but it is understood to have no foundation.[LNB]Chelsea played down the reports after a spokesman said: 'We never comment on transfer speculation, no matter how wild it is.'[LNB] No go: Chelsea have refuted links over a bid for Atletico duo Aguero (L) and Godin[LNB]However, it is understood the Blues made no attempt to sign striker Aguero or defender Godin.[LNB]Gil also claimed he turned down a £39m bid for Argentina international Aguero from city rivals Real Madrid.[LNB]'In the last week, we have received two offers,' he said.[LNB]'One from Real for Aguero for 45million euros and the other from Chelsea for Aguero and Diego Godin for 60million.[LNB]'Atletico have said no to the two offers because they believe in these two players.'[LNB]Chelsea have previously been linked with Aguero, 22, who joined debt-laden Atletico from Independiente in 2006.[LNB]Strong squad: Terry is confident about Chelsea's chances[LNB]Meanwhile, skipper John Terry says Chelsea's 30-somethings still have a number of good years ahead of them.[LNB]The England defender remains irritated at suggestions that time may be running out for some players.[LNB]Terry, 30, believes the reigning champions can kick on after the emphatic 4-0 victory against Bolton and mount a serious challenge to Manchester United and others.[LNB]Asked if the group had a future beyond this season, he said: 'I certainly hope so. We all realise we are a small squad and the club are looking at different options.[LNB]'I don't want to get into that but, what I will say, if the group hasto stay together for the rest of the season we will definitely be rightup there.[LNB]'We were reading that people don't fear us any more. The message in the dressing room is "don't fear us at your peril".[LNB]'People were saying things that we showed great experience with the players we have in the squad. Three months later we are all too old.[LNB]'We have players who are 30, 31, 32. We have young blood coming through as well. We have a great mix of players.[LNB]'One thing you cannot take away from the squad is that winning mentality. That rubs off on everyone coming into the group.
