Chelsea have reportedly received an offer from FC Barcelona for star defender David Luiz.

BBC Sport are reporting that Barcelona have lodged a bid for the 26 year old former Benfica defender, as they look towards finding a long term replacement for Carlos Puyol. It is no secret that the Catalan club are in the market for the defender. It was thought that their preferred choice was Thiago Silva of Paris St Germain. However, having been at the club a mere 12 months it is unlikely a sale will occur.

David Luiz has been left out of the clubs squad to face Real Madrid this evening amidst reports of an injury. Barcelona football director Raul Sanllehi flew to London this morning. According to the Daily Mail, to potentially broker a move for the defender with his agent Giuliano Bertolucci.

Luiz joined the Europa League holder in January 2011 and is thought to be extremely happy in the capital. However, Barcelona believe that a move to their club could be too big an opportunity to pass by. The mail believe that the fee offered is around £30million, £9million more than Chelsea paid for him.

Amidst speculation throughout the summer, Chelsea remain firm in their belief that the player will not be sold.
