News is just coming in that further confirms a transfer offer made by Chelsea for one of the stars of Atletico Madrids defence. The offer for Joao Miranda, a defender who has impressed Jose Mourinho is understood to be £20million despite the release clause stipulating £24million according to reports in the Express via Spanish sports paper Marca.

Miranda played a crucial role in getting Atletico to the Champions League final and the story first broke of a bid on the 19th of July by The Star that talks had started but the transfer has surface again. Chelsea have raided the La Liga winners for Diego Costa and Felipe Luis to the cost of £50million with links to Tiago and Miranda ongoing.

The report from Marca whilst offering little new information confirms the £20million offer and suggests that Barcelona and Manchester United also have close tabs on the 29-year-old defender.

Mourinho himself denies he is interested in the services of the defender saying: "I have to say my club did a fantastic job, and not just because of what we bought, but because we did it in almost record time,"

"The transfer market closes 31 August and we close our market on July 19."

The Brazilian centre-back joined Atletico Madrid from Sao Paulo in 2011 and has gone on to make 94 appearances for the Spanish champions and scored 5 goals. Miranda was one of seven players put on stand-by for the FIFA World Cup.
