John Terry has urgedRoman Abramovich tobuild on Chelsea's thirdBarclays PremierLeague title by boostingthe squad this summer. [LNB]Captain Terry fears the newchampions will be caught nextseason if they fail to consolidate ontheir success and wants the club totie down Joe Cole and NicolasAnelka on fresh contracts as well asrecruiting new players. [LNB]Abramovich has told managerCarlo Ancelotti he will provide thefunds to chase a stellar signing likeFernando Torres or Alexandre Patoif it is right for the team but willotherwise encourage Chelsea downa path to self-sufficiency. [LNB]Old guard: Chelsea are in need of a fresh injection of players if they are to maintain their lofty perch[LNB]'We definitely want to strengthen,'said Terry. [LNB]'The big four will need tostrengthen next year becauseeveryone is coming closer to us,Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool. It's going to be a busy summerbut we have a great squad hereanyway so I hope we can keep thelikes of Coley, who has been key forus with his goal at United, and Nico. [LNB]'Hopefully, we can keep everyone. We want to kick on again nextyear, year after year, and just keepwinning the trophy back-to-back.' [LNB]Terry was the target of a bid byManchester City last year. Thesummer saga ended with a newcontract for the Chelsea captain, keeping him at Stamford Bridgeuntil 2014, but he signed only afterassurances were given by Abramovichthat the best players wouldbe retained. [LNB]They included Frank Lampardand Didier Drogba, the striker whoseemed destined to leave butinstead signed a three-year deallast August. [LNB]Funds available: Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay is ready to release funds for player recruitment[LNB]'It was the key for me when I wastalking with the club,' said Terry. [LNB]'I spoke to them about Didier. I wanted these people to stay andthey've been brilliant this year.People like Lamps and Didier areimportant. [LNB]'The fans love them andit's important we keep them yearafter year because they're a nightmareto play against.' [LNB]After last year's FA Cup win andbefore his dalliance with City, Terryhad insisted Chelsea ought to be inthe market for players like FranckRibery and David Villa. [LNB]'Hopefully, Roman will listen andget things done,' said the skipper atthe time. [LNB]However, Yuri Zhirkov, an£18million buy from CSKA Moscow, was the only big-money arrival.Abramovich may choose to heedlessons from the past. When Chelseawon the title in 2006, the ownersplashed out nearly £70m on newplayers and smashed the wagestructure by signing AndriyShevchenko and Michael Ballack. [LNB]Spending soared and it triggereddiscontent because manager JoseMourinho was unhappy to haveplayers forced on him and existingstars like Terry and Lampard wereupset to no longer be top earners. [LNB]Four years ago, Abramovich lavishedmoney on the club with littleexpectation of getting it back. [LNB]Nowthe policy, stressed by chief executiveRon Gourlay, is a drive towardsbalancing the books, with the provisothat the Russian billionairecould spend big on a player if thefancy takes him. [LNB]Gourlay said: 'Roman is as committedto Chelsea as he's ever beenand likes what he's seeing at the into the marketplace and spend X ifit's right. [LNB]'We wouldn't blow ourstrategy out of the window. Wewould have to be conscious of whatwe were doing. [LNB]'Carlo will recommend the playershe wants for next season but wehave to get this football club self sufficient. That's the goal.' [LNB] In the Nic of time: Anelka (right) is close to signing a new deal, while Joe Cole's future is the source of much speculation[LNB]Some senior players, such asJuliano Belletti, Paulo Ferreira andDeco, are expected to move on.Next week, negotiations willreopen with Ballack and Joe Cole, both out of contract next month, and Anelka, who has a year to run. [LNB]Ancelotti is keen to promoteyoung, home-bred players such asJeffrey Bruma and Gael Kakuta, butChelsea are not worried by the ageof their best players.[LNB]'We have 28 players and an averageage of 27,' said Gourlay.[LNB] 'Wehave a good balance. We won thetitle, so it must be OK.' [LNB]Ancelotti has impressed with hispersonality and football acumenand appears to have convinced hisboss that stability is good, althoughthere are no plans to improve thethree-year contract he signed onarrival from AC Milan last year. [LNB] Dream start: Carlo Ancelotti has won the Premier League in his first season at the club[LNB]'Carlo is very definitely here for thelong term,' said Gourlay.[LNB] 'He has fittedin exceptionally well and I'm surehe will be around for many years. He'san exceptional coach, a very impressiveman, fantastic to work with, unbelievably knowledgeable and verycalm. [LNB]'We've won the title and hopefullywe can win the FA Cup, which willtake us into history, and then wehave to look at next season.[LNB]'But weare not going to be sitting downwith the coach and having any conversationsabout contracts whenhe's only been here for 12 months.'[LNB] Enlarge [LNB] Enlarge Enlarge Enlarge   Martin Samuel: It's Madness as Chelsea dance to a happy beatGreat-nil!
