Premier League leaders Chelsea have made an offer to Spanish club Valencia for more than £25million as they look to acquire midfield talent Andre Gomes, according to reports today.

Jose Mourinho's Chelsea side have been monitoring the Portuguese youngster since his La Liga arrival last summer, after making a £13million move from native club Benfica.

It's reported that Mourinho rates Gomes highly and local sources in Valencia say a huge bid of £25.7million has been made by Chelsea as the club look to add options to their midfield. Manchester United had made enquiries for the player this January but were rejected by the 21-year-old.

After performing well for Valencia this season, especially in the UEFA Europa League, the Spanish club aren't likely to accept Chelsea's initial offer, although the West London club could return with an even larger pot of money.

At 6' 2”, Gomes has been likened to Juventus star Paul Pogba and has been praised for his elegant passing ability whilst possessing speed and skill.
