Guus Hiddink has demanded the introduction of goal-line technology after Chelsea[LNB]'s Champions League ambitions were threatened by the failure to spot Didier Drogba's legitimate, first-half free-kick.[LNB]Chelsea survived the scare to draw 2-2 against Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico and secure their place in the quarter-finals, but Drogba's effort clearly went over the line. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon could not prevent the free-kick squirming inside his post, but Spanish referee Alberto Undiano Mallenco and his assistants failed to see it. [LNB]Hiddink said: 'I think it is time to bring it in. Technology must be used on this. Then there won't be a dispute, it's yes or no. But the people who were deciding didn't wantto know and that was 20 years ago. Now I think the technology is soperfect that, for me, it must be done.' [LNB]In fact, a FIFA-backed study will review a microchip-in-ball systemlater this year while a goal-line official will be soon be given atrial in the Italian Cup. [LNB]Juventus levelled the tie on aggregate when Vincenzo Iaquinta scored abrilliant effort after 19 minutes, but Michael Essien scored Chelsea'sequaliser on the stroke of half-time. [LNB]The Chelsea midfielder was returning to the starting line-up for thefirst time since he ruptured cruciate ligaments on September 5 lastyear and he scored their vital away goal. Alessandro del Piero scoredJuve's second from the penalty spot after Juliano Belletti, whoreplaced Essien in the 66th minute, handled inside the area. [LNB] A great return: Chelsea's Michael Essien scores against Juventus on his return to the starting line-up[LNB]Claudio Ranieri's side were down to 10 men after the dismissal ofGiorgio Chiellini for a second bookable offence and Drogba ensuredChelsea's quarter-final place with a late strike.[LNB]Hiddink added: 'Essien is fit, although not game fit for 90 minutes atthis high-paced level, but we chose to bring him and play him. If youput him on late on then we're probably in a problem scenario. I wantedto be proactive in playing him. [LNB]'His contribution to the team is huge, not just with his goal. His fuelwas out of his tank after an hour. Belletti, though, is a very cleverplayer and provided a very good assist for Drogba's goal. It is good tosee Essien back and by playing these games he's getting the practice toplay a whole 90 minutes.'[LNB]Hiddink, who said he had no preference for home or foreign oppositionin the quarter-finals, has also seen a return to form of Drogba. TheChelsea striker scored the winner against Juventus at Stamford Bridgeand followed it up against Coventry in the FA Cup last weekend. [LNB] It's all over: Juventus captain Italian Alessandro Del Piero is distraught after his side's defeat to Chelsea[LNB]The Dutchman added: 'He's very important, how he's showing hiscommitment and how he's always busy. He doesn't give you, as a centraldefender, an easy night. When he scores, it's even better. He's doingvery well. For the second goal, he came just ahead of his marker. That's a sign that he is sharp.[LNB]'Also, Anelka, after not training so much, did his job tactically verywell. He was always occupying two defenders, the right back and theright central defender. He also did very well defensively and pressed. It was a very good performance.' [LNB]Ranieri admitted that his team lost the tie in the first leg when theyfailed to score the away goal that might have put Chelsea under morepressure here. The former Chelsea chief said: 'In this competition youneed an away goal. We did what we could tonight and I'd like to thankthe players for their efforts and the supporters for their support, butwe lost the tie in London.'[LNB]Chelsea keeper Petr Cech added: 'Hiddink is a great coach and we havebeen enjoying the time we spend with him. We would be delighted if hestays.'[LNB] Juventus 2 Chelsea 2: The Train is on time with vital goal as Juve fall[LNB]MARTIN SAMUEL: We could do with another dose of Jose[LNB]Juventus 2 Chelsea 2: All the action as it happened[LNB]CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GALLERY[LNB]CHELSEA FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE NET[LNB][LNB] [LNB]
