Chelsea appeal to FA in bid to have Lampard red card overturned

Chelsea have appealed against the red card received by Frank Lampard during Sunday's 2-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield, the Football Association have confirmed.[LNB]Lampard was dismissed in the 60th minute by referee Mike Riley even though TVreplays showed the Chelsea player got to the ball first ahead of Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso.[LNB] Flashpoint: Lampard flies in to challenge Alonso[LNB] Lampard is due to serve a three-match ban after collecting his straight red but Chelsea are now hopeful the FA will overturn Riley's decision when they review the matter on Tuesday.[LNB]Meanwhile, Chelsea full-back Jose Bosingwa has apologised for kicking YossiBenayoun in the back in the closing stages of Sunday's game.Bosingwa was lucky to stay on the pitch after kicking Benayoun as he tried to shield the ball near the corner flag in the closing stages, but the Chelsea right-back now says he regrets the action which could yet be punished by the FA."I apologise for what I did and it was never my intention to hurt him," said Bosingwa. "I know it was wrong and I apologise."It's always frustrating to lose big games and especially in this way. It was important to get points and not let Man United go.
