Carlo targets Cole contract
16 Oct 2009 - 15:15:48
Chelsea head coach Carlo Ancelotti is hopeful that England midfielder Joe Cole will soon become the latest player to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
The 27-year-old's current deal runs out next summer, but Ancelotti is keen to show his support for Cole, who has been struggling with knee problems in recent months.
The Italian commented: "We want to keep Joe Cole because he's in the same situation as Alex and Salomon Kalou.
"They signed new contracts because they are good young players and we want to keep them in our squad.
"We want to maintain the squad because that will ensure it stays very competitive. We need these players for the future.
"They are young but are also experienced because they have played a lot of important games.
"Our aim is to maintain the squad and maybe change one or two players at the end of the season."
Cole joined Chelsea in the summer of 2003 from West Ham and has since scored 36 goals in 245 appearances in all competitions.
