Carlo - Wigan worthy of win

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has admitted his side deserved to lose their first game of the season to Wigan. The Latics sent shockwaves around the Premier League after defeating the early pacesetters 3-1 at the DW Stadium on Saturday. Petr Cech saw red as goals from Titus Bramble, Hugo Rodallega and Paul Scharner crushed the Blues and ended their 100 per cent record this season. Chelsea, who were briefly level through Didier Drogba, have now been displaced at the top of the table after Manchester United won at Stoke. Ancelotti was gracious in defeat, however, admitting that his side deserved to lose and that Wigan were worthy of their impressive win. "For sure it was not a good game for us," he told Sky Sports. "We have played better in other matches. "Today we didn't play well. Wigan have played better than us and they deserved to win." Drama Drogba equalised early in the second half after Bramble had given the Latics a half-time lead but drama unfolded soon after as Cech brought down Rodallega in the area and received his marching orders. Phil Dowd's decisions looked to be correct and as Ancelotti did not have a good view of the incident, he was reluctant to question the referee's judgement. "I don't know if it was the right decision because the referee was very close to the action but I don't like to speak about the decision because he was in a good position." The Italian boss vowed to put the defeat behind him and expects his side to use it to spur them on as they prepare for their next game against Cypriots Apoel Nicosia in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. "After the penalty it was difficult to return to draw the match and we are disappointed but we have to look forward to the next game. "In football sometimes the way you lose you can find supplementary motivation." Ashley Cole was forced to withdraw from the game through injury in stoppage time with Chelsea having used all of their subs, but Ancelotti has calmed fears over his fitness. He added: "We have to wait and control him in the next few days. It is a knock so it's not a really big problem for him."
