Carlo revels in the killer lines as he charms his way into Premier League

When Carlo Ancelotti recalled his first meeting with Roman Abramovich in his autobiography, he spoke of being taken to a secret rendezvous by a driver with a 'killer's face'. But yesterday it was Ancelotti who emerged as the killer; the coach, and at times the comedian, with the killer lines. For someone giving a press conference in English for the first time, it was impressive stuff from Chelsea's new manager. The way he teased and entertained his audience. The way he used the platform at Stamford Bridge skilfully to manipulate certain situations to his advantage. The opening line was met with a gasp. 'I think that John Terry is a symbol of this team,' he said. 'But I don't know if he will be the captain next season.' Hold the back page. A screaming headline in less than half a minute? But then came a smile. Then came evidence that this guy delights in a bit of mischief. 'Naturally, I joke,' he said before declaring a desire to keep Terry 'forever'. 'For Terry there is no price,' he added.
