Carlo Ancelotti leaves AC Milan paving way for Chelsea move
He is widely expected to be confirmed as the new coach of Chelsea for next season, but he would not be drawn on where his future lies.
"Today is not the day for that," he said. "I have had eight great years here and I want to thank everybody who has been with me over these years. That is all I can say today."
Ancelotti, 49, stated his departure was agreed after the final whistle.
He said: "It was decided by mutual consent after the game after we reached our minimum aim for this season. Our roads will separate next season."
Although Ancelotti could not confirm he will become the next coach of Chelsea, he did at least reveal that he would not be joining another Serie A club.
"I am certainly not staying in Italy," he added. "But it is not certain that I am going to London for sure."
Ancelotti was named Milan coach in Nov 2001 after a spell at Juventus and led the Rossoneri to one Serie A title and two Champions League triumphs.
He had previously served the club with great distinction as a player for over 15 years.
He was linked with Chelsea last summer and admitted recently to talking to the west London club then, but he insists there has been no contact this time.
Speaking earlier this week, he said: "I have never talked to Chelsea. I did it last year, this year no. I know everyone wants to know the end of the tale but for me things are very clear."
Chelsea are on the lookout for a new permanent coach after sacking Luiz Felipe Scolari in February.
Russia national team coach Guus Hiddink was brought in on a short-term deal and signed off in style yesterday with an FA Cup final victory over Everton at Wembley.
Brazilian Leonardo will be AC Milan's next coach. Chief executive Adriano Galliani said: "It will be Leonardo. Tomorrow he will be presented at 12."
