Cahill receives Capello call

02 September 2009 14:54
Bolton defender Gary Cahill has been called up to the England squad for the friendly with Slovenia as cover for captain John Terry and Wes Brown. The 23-year-old has been drafted in by manager Fabio Capello after Terry and Brown sustained "minor knocks" in training. News of injuries to the duo will come as a blow to the Three Lions ahead of the Slovenia game and the crucial World Cup qualifier with Croatia on 9th September. Capello is already without Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, who is absent due to a thigh injury. Cahill was also called up to the England squad for the qualifier with Kazakhstan in June. Capello's side sit top of World Cup qualifying Group 6 with a 100 per cent record and are on the brink of qualifying for next summer's finals in South Africa.
