Bring on Barca! Chelsea boss Hiddink vows to attack Champions League foes
Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink has vowed to fight fire with fire when they square up to free-scoring Barcelona. The Spanish side boast a fearsome attack with Lionel Messi, Samuel Eto'o and Thierry Henry sharing over 80 goals between them this season.Chelsea will have to be at their very best in the Champions League semi-final showdown if they are to progress to their second successive final. But Hiddink insists they will not sit back and defend in next week's first leg despite the big threat posed by Barca's forward line.'We expect a very attacking Barcelona team but Chelsea has the character not to sit back,' the Dutchman told ESPN. 'It is impossible in this team even if I say 'hey guys let's sit back and defend'. It is impossible because there is this desire in the team to play football as well.' Hiddink's biggest headache is finding a replacement to mark Argentina star Messi, with first-choice left-back Ashley Cole suspended. 'Messi is one of the most beautiful players in the world, very attractive,' added Hiddink. 'In these two games I hope he is not delivering and producing what he normally does but I have to think about how to do that. We still have a little bit of time.' Chelsea are still in the hunt for three trophies after reaching the FA Cup final and Hiddink has warned his rivals that there is still more to come from his stars. 'There is always room for improvement because we are always very self critical on our performances,' he said. 'I think every game we can learn something even if we are on a winning stroke already for many weeks on international and national level. 'But we always try to find a little bit of what can be improved because there is no perfect game. You can always deliver a little bit more as a team or an individual.'
