Chelsea left-back Wayne Bridge is determined to fight for a starting spot with the Premiership champions following the arrival of international colleague Ashley Cole.
The 26-year-old had to settle for a place on the bench in midweek against Werder Bremen, with former Arsenal ace Cole taking his place on the left side of defence.
However, Bridge told The Evening Standard: "I count myself as a fighter.
"The way I have been playing, I have done enough to show I am good enough to play for Chelsea. I won't be happy unless I do.
"Hopefully, with what I've done in games and training, I will get a chance. If it doesn't work out then it doesn't.
"I got a lot of praise from people after the first three games. There was a lot of talk about Ashley, but I just kept quiet and plugged away.
"It was an odd situation, but I decided that what will be, will be. I didn't ask the manager about it and have kept my head strong."
