Boss Carlo Ancelotti not getting carried away by Chelsea's new-found flair

Carlo Ancelotti has warned his players he only gets excited by winning and has no interest in earning plaudits for artistic merit. The Italian has been praised for making once-pragmatic Chelsea pretty as well as powerful this season. New chief executive Ron Gourlay revealed that owner Roman Abramovich wants to see an exciting as well as successful style and claims the team are playing their best football for three years. But as they prepared to face Manchester United at Stamford Bridge today, Ancelotti told his side he wants a 'balanced' approach. Working together: But Ancelotti is more interested in results than performances 'I don't think we are more exciting,' said the manager, who preferred Chelsea's penalty at Bolton last weekend to the intricate fourth goal created by Frank Lampard and Deco for Didier Drogba. 'The last goal I wasn't excited about. I was excited about the first goal, the goal which gives us the possibility to win. It was a fantastic action for Drogba's goal, but I'm not excited by this.' One player Ancelotti is enthusiastic about is Joe Cole, who has been out for most of the year with a serious knee injury. Chelsea have rewarded his hard work in the treatment room by opening talks on a new contract and, although he started against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday in the Champions League, he is likely to be on the bench today. Ancelotti thinks it may be too soon for him to return for England in next Saturday's friendly against Brazil in Doha. He said: 'Joe has to continue to improve and I think he will have the opportunity to return to the national team in the future.'  Chelsea preparing to blow their entire January budget on £35 million Sergio AgueroChelsea reprieve!
