Bosingwa sorry for reaction
02 Feb 2009 - 11:08:50
Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa has issued an apology after he was involved in a skirmish with Liverpool's Yossi Benayoun towards the end of Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Anfield.
The Portugal full-back kicked out at the Israel international when he was attempting to run the clock down during the latter stages of the game.
Referee Mike Riley did not take any action despite the incident occurring under the nose of his assistant, but Blues boss Luiz Felipe Scolari was swift to condemn the actions of his defender after the final whistle.
Bosingwa is likely to face action from the Football Association, but in the meantime the contrite defender has admitted making a mistake with his reaction.
"I apologise for what I did and it was never my intention to hurt him. I know it was wrong and I apologise," he told the club's official website.
"It's always frustrating to lose big games and especially in this way. It was important to get points and not let Man United go.
"That didn't happen, so we are upset, but now we have to think about the next game."
