Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa has been warned by doctors he needs knee surgery which will rule him out for a month.
Bosingwa, who has been out of action for a fortnight, visited a specialist in Porto this week who advised him to go under the knife, reports The Daily Mirror.
The Portuguese full-back's absence means it will keep him out of Chelsea's Barclays Premier League title push over the next four weeks and his country's World Cup play-off with Bosnia.
Chelsea's medical staff are understood to have told him to have the surgery as boss Carlo Ancelotti has quality cover in Juliano Belletti, and Branislav Ivanovic can play in the right-back slot.
Bosingwa said: 'The decision is up to the doctors and I accept the best solution.'
