Chelsea have reportedly made a £12million offer for Lyon winger Florent Malouda, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool.
The France international recently revealed his wish to leave the Stade Gerland, but Lyon are believed to want around £16million for the 27-year-old wideman.
Any move for Malouda casts doubt on Arjen Robben's future at Stamford Bridge.
Earlier in the month, Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon claimed his club were in discussions with the Netherlands international over a move to Spain.
Chelsea dismissed the suggestion they were looking to offload Robben, but Malouda is seen as a tailor-made replacement for the 23-year-old winger.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have refused to comment on speculation linking Portsmouth technical director Avram Grant with a move to Stamford Bridge.
The former Israel manager is believed to be friends with Blues owner Roman Abramovich and will reportedly join the club in an advisory capacity on July 1.
"Avram Grant is an employee of another football club and, as such, we will not comment," said a Chelsea spokesman.
