Blues linked with Green swoop

Reports suggest Petr Cech's days at Chelsea could be numbered as Carlo Ancelotti is lining up a January transfer window bid for West Ham United shot-stopper Robert Green.

Green, who has also been linked with moves to Sunderland and Aston Villa, has moved on to Ancelotti's radar following a series of Cech errors this season.

The Czech Republic international was at fault for at least two of Everton's goals in Saturday's 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge with the Daily Express revealing that the Blues boss has finally lost patience with the shot-stopper.

Chelsea have conceded 11 of their 13 league goals from set-pieces this season, with Cech's indecision blamed for many of them.

If Green does leave Upton Park, Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola is believed to be ready to make a move to capture veteran American keeper Brad Friedel.

Meanwhile, Green is aware that Zola's team need to start climbing away from the foot of the table, saying: "We've got to grit our teeth and get through it. It's a busy, important time for us and it's still so tight.

"If we'd won on Saturday, we'd have gone 12th or something crazy like that. That's the way the league is at this moment in time, but we've got to start picking up points. You don't get much bigger than Tuesday."
