Chelsea have played down reports that midfielder Frank Lampard could miss the start of the new season due to a foot injury.
Rumours began to circulate on Thursday suggesting that England international Lampard could have a broken toe, but the Blues insist that there is little or no problem.
A Chelsea spokesman confirmed: "Contrary to speculation, Frank Lampard has only suffered a minor injury, sustained over three weeks ago while training in Los Angeles.
"The injury has not required any painkilling injections nor affected Frank's ability to play or to take part in any one of Chelsea's training sessions."
Meanwhile, the Blues have moved another step closer to signing PSV Eindhoven centre-back, Alex, after the Brazilian was granted a work permit to move to Stamford Bridge.
A brief statement for the club read: "At a hearing today (Thursday), Alex was granted a work permit.
"He still has to agree personal terms with Chelsea Football Club and have a medical."
The 25-year-old has been with PSV for three seasons, having previously made his name in his homeland with Santos.
