Chelsea have dismissed reports suggesting that Brazilian centre-back Alex has asked to leave the club in the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old former PSV Eindhoven stopper had claimed that had asked to leave Stamford Bridge, having become frustrated at not being a first-team regular.
Alex reportedly told The Sun: "I told Chelsea a few days ago that I wanted to leave. There are many options, but I have to think them through and see if Chelsea will let me leave in January."
However, the Blues responded by issuing a statement which read: "Chelsea would like to make it clear that no transfer request has been received from any player.
"Chelsea will decide the future of any contracted player in the best interests of the club."
Alex has made 51 appearances since arriving at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2007 and is currently enjoying a run in the side with Ricardo Carvalho sidelined due to injury.
