Chelsea have confirmed that Jose Mourinho was arrested and cautioned on Tuesday evening after becoming embroiled in an argument with police over his pet dog.
Mourinho rushed back to his house from the Blues' player-of-the-year awards after his wife telephoned him to say their Yorkshire Terrier was being taken away.
Police believed that the dog had returned to this country from a trip abroad without the appropriate jabs and had been attempting to put the animal into quarantine.
A spokesman for the Blues boss said: "The incident occurred because of a misunderstanding over documents required for veterinary regulations.
"Mr Mourinho would like to make it clear that his pet dog was bought in England from a reputable breeder and has had all its necessary inoculations.
"Full co-operation will be given over any animal health issues."
A Scotland Yard spokesman had earlier said: "A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police and was taken to a west London police station.
"He subsequently received a caution for obstructing police."
