    Blues agree Robben exit

    22 Aug 2007 - 22:36:51

Chelsea winger Arjen Robben appears to be on his way to Real Madrid after the two clubs agreed a fee to bring to an end a transfer saga that has rumbled on throughout the summer.

The 23-year-old's future at Stamford Bridge had been brought into question when Chelsea signed France international Florent Malouda last month to increase competition for the wide left role.

Robben admitted during a pre-season tour of the US that he was considering his future at Stamford Bridge and the Netherlands international looks set to be granted his wish to join the Spanish champions.

Real president Ramon Calderon has also often spoken of his desire to lure the former PSV Eindhoven wideman to the Bernabeu.

"Chelsea Football Club and Real Madrid have reached an agreement for the transfer of Arjen Robben subject to the player agreeing personal terms and passing a medical," confirmed a Chelsea statement.

Robben has been with Chelsea for three seasons, scoring 19 goals in 106 appearances since his arrival from PSV Eindhoven.

However, a knee injury suffered on the eve of the new season has kept him out of action at the start of the new campaign.

Real's acquisition comes just hours after they agreed to sign Manchester United's unsettled defender Gabriel Heinze for £8million.
