Blues: Lampard not for sale
08 Jul 2008 - 11:29:06
Chelsea have rejected an approach from Internazionale for Frank Lampard and warned the Italian side that they have no plans to sell the unsettled midfielder.
Lampard, 30, was reported to have been the subject of a £6.5million bid from the Serie A champions at the beginning of the week.
Newly-installed coach and former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was believed to have made the England midfielder his main transfer target following his arrival in the Inter hot-seat.
However, Chelsea have rejected an approach for the former West Ham United youngster despite his future at Stamford Bridge remaining uncertain.
Lampard has just 12 months remaining on his existing contract and has failed to agree terms on a new deal despite lengthy discussions.
New Blues coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's decision to sign Portugal midfielder Deco had also led to suggestions that Lampard's seven-year stay at Stamford Bridge was coming towards an end.
"Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has received an official approach from Internazionale to discuss the possible transfer of Frank Lampard," confirmed a club statement.
"Contrary to reports no financial offer was made.
"Chelsea has informed Inter this morning (Tuesday) that we will not enter into any discussions regarding the transfer of Frank Lampard."
