Blues' Alves bid rebuffed
16 Aug 2007 - 13:00:25
Chelsea's approach for Daniel Alves has been rejected by Sevilla after the Spanish club claimed the offer was "way below" what they expect to receive.
The 24-year-old Brazil full-back has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge all summer with reports claiming the Blues had tabled a bid in the region of £20million.
But Sevilla have rejected an approach from Chelsea for a player who only signed a new five-year contract with them last December.
"Sevilla would like to clarify, in relation to the news in various media stories relating to negotiations between this club and Chelsea of England for the transfer of the player to the London club, that Sevilla has considered the offer made by Chelsea to acquire the player as way below the level expected," read a Sevilla statement.
"This being the case, Daniel remains a player of Sevilla FC."
Alves joined the UEFA Cup holders from Brazilian club Bahia in 2002 and has gone on to win ten international caps as the replacement for legendary right-back Cafu.
The attacking full-back was linked with moves to Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid last summer.
