Big Sam waiting on Di Santo
Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is not sure whether he will be able to pursue a move for Chelsea's Franco Di Santo as he looks to strengthen his striking options. A new forward is a priority for Blackburn following the departures of Roque Santa Cruz and Matt Derbyshire. Reports in Italy had suggested that 35-year-old Christian Vieri may join Blackburn at their pre-season training camp, after being released by Atalanta in April. It is now understood that there is no truth in those reports, but Chelsea youngster Di Santo has emerged as another possible target. The Argentine joined the Blues in January 2008 but has had few opportunities to impress at Stamford Bridge. He is nevertheless regarded as a possible star of the future and a season-long loan deal has been mooted as one option to give him more first-team experience. Rovers are monitoring the situation but Allardyce expects new Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti to take time to assess his squad. Di Santo is set to travel to USA with the rest of the Blues squad for their pre-season tour. "I don't know what the situation is with Di Santo so I'm not particularly clear on what's been talked about there," Allardyce told the Lancashire Telegraph. "I would have thought Ancelotti would be looking at all of his players first before making a decision on whether he's letting anyone go. "But obviously we would be interested in anyone from Chelsea if they were the right price for us."
