The transfer window closed on the 2nd of September at 11.00 pm. Many great players were signed all over the Premier League, but the question is, what was the best bit of business done?
In terms of money spent this transfer window it was over 600 million, a record for the Premier League. Several teams broke their transfer record and then broke it again.
Chelsea were busy signing players such as Willian and Samuel Eto from Anzhi Makhachkala and Andre Schurlle from Bayer Leverkusen.
Tottenham spent over 100 million on 7 players. Paulinho, Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado are sure to make their mark in England. Potentially the most exciting new Spurs player is Christian Erikson, not quite as good as Gareth Bale, but certainly will bring the creativity that was lost with Bales departure.
Manchester City bought Negredo, Jovetic, Fernandinho and Jesus Navas who all look like top drawer players. If Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo can rekindle the partnership they had in Spain then they could devastate the opposition.
Liverpool have been busy also bringing in no less than 8 players. Simon Mignolet and Kolo Toure have already looked to be bargains. Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto are young Spanish players that once settled could be invaluable to the team.
Across Liverpool, Everton were particularly busy bringing in Lukaku, James McCarthy and Gareth Barry on deadline day. They also brought in Arouna Kone and Alcaraz from Wigan. Their greatest signing could turn out to be the young Barcelona ace Gerard Deulofeu, who looks like he could be an amazing player.
Arsenal smashed their transfer record to bring in Mesut Ozil who I believe will be worth every penny of the 44 million spent on him.
Manchester United added Marouane Fellaini to an already unbelievable squad and he is certain to strengthen the United midfield.
Stewart Downing could particularly prove to be a great buy at West Ham if he can play as well as he is capable of. If Andy Carroll can stay fit and score goals he could also be a great (if overpriced) bit of business.
Cardiff broke their transfer record three times with the signings of Andreas Cornelius, Steven Caulker and Gary Medal. Their Welsh rivals Swansea spent 12 million on Wilfred Bony and 5 million on Jonjo Shelvey.
West Brom signed some great players on deadline day in Victor Anichebe and Stephane Sessegnon, add that to the signings on Vydra and Sinclair on loan and they have a particularly strong front line.
Darren Bent, Adel Taarabt and Scott Parker all look like solid signings for Fulham as do Gary Hooper, Van Wolfswinkel and Elmander for Norwich.
But the signing who has most impressed me so far is the young Spanish Left back at Villa Antonia Luna. Solid in defence and not afraid to go forward. He looks so composed on the ball and knows when to pass and when to run.
I’m sure this season is going to be better than the last and many of these players will be the reason why.
