Barcelona have moved quickly to deny a weekend report suggesting they were coveting
Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard.
The Sunday People had quoted the Catalan giants' sporting director Txiki Begiristain as saying the club would love to have a player of Lampard's calibre at the Camp Nou and 'we would sign him with our eyes closed.'
However, following a significant reaction to the story in the Spanish press, the current Primera Liga champions have acted quickly to play down the report.
A statement from Barca read: "Txiki Begiristain denies having made comments to the English press about the Chelsea player Frank Lampard."
Lampard, who is currently topping the Premiership scoring charts with ten goals to his credit already this season, has stressed in the past that he is happy at Stamford Bridge.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho would almost certainly not entertain any idea of selling him to a club who could well be challenging his side for the Champions League crown.
