Ballack predicts title charge
08 Dec 2008 - 11:13:20
Midfielder Michael Ballack believes Chelsea are perfectly placed to strike a blow in the race for the Premier League title over the festive period.
The Blues were 2-0 winners at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday as they maintained their place just one point adrift of leaders Liverpool.
Defeat to Arsenal the previous weekend had led to questions being asked of Luiz Felipe Scolari's side, but Ballack has now set his sights on a title charge.
"This win was important because we couldn't win our last game and Bolton was in good shape with four wins in five games," he told the club's official website.
"We expected a rather difficult game, which it was, but the result was correct
"Now we have to fight to have first place back. We must keep going over Christmas. It is a hard period and we will see.
"We have experience, we have a strong squad and you can see that the moment we have a lot of injuries, but we are still in a good position."
