Ballack eyes Blues extension
25 Jan 2009 - 11:41:49
Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack is hoping to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge by agreeing a new contract.
The 32-year-old Germany captain is out of contract at the end of the current season but has dropped a strong hint that he sees his future with the west London club.
Blues assistant Ray Wilkins hailed the professionalism of the former Bayern Munich midfielder after he scored twice during Saturday's FA Cup fourth round win over Ipswich Town despite carrying an injury.
Wilkins suggested Ballack would be staying with the Blues beyond the end of the season and the player himself has now signalled his intention to remain at Stamford Bridge.
"I am happy here, I feel very comfortable and very good," he said.
"My situation is that we will speak in the next few weeks and I think we will find a way.
"As I said, I am happy here and I hope I can play a few more years here."
Ballack has scored 19 goals in 97 appearances for the Blues since his arrival in the summer of 2006.
