Ballack calm over future
07 Jul 2008 - 10:22:36
Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack insists he is in no rush to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
The 31-year-old Germany captain has just one year remaining on his existing deal, but is not considering his future at the moment.
Ballack joined the Blues on a free transfer from Bayern Munich in May 2006 and has made 78 first-team appearances.
"I have a contract until 2009 and there is an option to extend it, so there is no need to rush," he told Bild.
"We will just wait and see what happens."
Meanwhile, Ballack believes the Blues will once again challenge for silverware on all fronts during the coming campaign after finishing as runners-up to Manchester United in the Premier League and Champions League last season.
"Even without new signings, Chelsea already had an exceptional squad which is capable of winning something always," he continued.
"That obviously means (we can win) the Champions League next season. That is the reason why I moved to Chelsea.
"I am playing in the best league in the world with one of the strongest teams."
