Ballack: Time's tight for contract talks

Michael Ballack concedes time is "tight" as he looks to secure a new contract at Chelsea before the start of the World Cup finals.[LNB] The experienced Germany midfielder is out of contract in the summer and is yet to discuss an extension with the newly-crowned Premier League champions.[LNB]Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay confirmed earlier this week that the club would not be entering into talks until after Saturday's FA Cup final against Portsmouth.[LNB]Ballack is due to link up with the Germany squad following the Wembley showdown to start his preparations for the World Cup next month.[LNB]And, while he understands Chelsea's decision to delay contract negotiations, he admits time is running out to secure an agreement.[LNB]"Roman Abramovich will only hold contract discussions once the season is over," said Ballack.[LNB]"I don't want to pass judgement on that and I have to accept it.[LNB]"But everything is becoming rather tight in terms of time."[LNB]The 33-year-old, who has made almost 170 appearances in four years at Stamford Bridge, has been linked with a return to the Bundesliga with Schalke.
