Back surgery for Terry
29 Dec 2006 - 08:11:29
Chelsea captain John Terry has undergone successful back surgery but there is some debate as to how long he will be sidelined for.
The England international has missed Chelsea's last three Premiership games because of the injury - the wins against Wigan Athletic and Everton and draw with Reading - in which Jose Mourinho's side has conceded six goals.
A brief statement on the club's official website read: "Club captain John Terry underwent successful surgery following his back injury.
"The operation took place in France following consultation between the Chelsea medical department and a leading neurosurgical specialist."
Although some reports insist the 26-year-old could be sidelined for two months, and others just over a week, the most likely scenario is that Terry will return to action in the second half of January.
Mourinho has admitted his side is missing Terry, particularly as both William Gallas and Robert Huth left Stamford Bridge in the summer.
