Senegal striker Demba Ba did not take long to prove his worth in a rare English Premier League start for Chelsea.
Chosen ahead of veteran Cameroon star Samuel Eto'o, he set up Brazilian Oscar for the opening goal just four minutes into a 3-1 win at Norwich.
Nigerian Peter Odemwingie scored his first league goal for Cardiff, but could not prevent a 2-1 home defeat by Newcastle.
ENGLAND
YAYA TOURE (Manchester City)
Toure sparked City's fightback in a 3-1 win at home to Everton by creating the equaliser for Alvaro Negredo in the 17th minute. The imposing Ivory Coast star showcased his more nuanced qualities with an exquisite reverse pass between full-back and centre-back that enabled Negredo to beat visiting goalkeeper Tim Howard.
DEMBA BA (Chelsea)
Deputising for the suspended Fernando Torres, Ba teed up Chelsea's opening goal in a 3-1 win at Norwich City. With four minutes on the clock, the Senegal international beautifully cushioned a lofted pass from Frank Lampard and laid the ball off for Oscar to drill a shot into the bottom-right corner.
PETER ODEMWINGIE (Cardiff City)
Nigeria international striker Odemwingie scored his first Premier League goal for Cardiff but finished on the losing side in a 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle United. The 32-year-old struck in the 58th minute, gathering a square pass from substitute Jordon Mutch and driving home a low shot.
PAPISS CISSE (Newcastle United)
Cisse has not scored in seven league appearances this season but the Senegal striker helped create Loic Remy's winning goal. The former Freiburg frontman saw an effort saved by Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall in the 38th minute, with Remy coolly tucking away the rebound.
YOUSSOUF MULUMBU (West Bromwich Albion)
Democratic Republic of Congo anchorman Mulumbu helped to shackle Arsenal's talented attacking midfielders as West Brom held the league leaders 1-1 at The Hawthorns. The 26-year-old also played a role in the game's opening goal shortly before half-time with a neat square pass to Morgan Amalfitano, whose cross was headed home by Claudio Yacob.
FRANCE
PAPE N'DIAYE SOUARE (Lille)
The 23-year-old defender opened the scoring for Lille with his first goal for the club as the 2011 champions went joint third with Marseille after thrashing Ajaccio 3-0. The left-back competed at the 2012 London Olympics and has picked up three caps for Senegal. His compatriot Idrissa Gueye added the second as the Dakar native picked up a rare goal from midfield while their Ivory Coast teammate Salomon Kalou added a late insurance marker.
ANDRE AYEW, JORDAN AYEW (Marseille)
The Ghana brothers ended on the losing side as Marseille slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to bitter rivals Paris Saint-Germain. Jordan had a 20th-minute close-range shot saved and was later substituted. Andre scored from the penalty spot to give his side the lead on the half-hour mark but was at fault for PSG's winner when he fouled Marquinhos and Zlatan Ibrahimovic steered home the penalty kick.
GERMANY
KEVIN-PRINCE BOATENG (Schalke 04)
The attacking midfielder is a concern for Ghana's World Cup qualifier against Egypt on October 15 after picking up a leg injury in Schalke's 4-1 victory over Augsburg. Boateng equalised by converting a penalty before limping off on 68 minutes with a badly bruised leg.
DOMI KUMBELA (Eintracht Braunschweig)
The Democratic Republic of Congo striker netted Braunschweig's second goal in their 2-0 win at VfL Wolfsburg, which gave Eintracht their first win in the Bundesliga since June 1, 1985. Kumbela finished off a counter-attack four minutes from time.
ERIC CHOUPO-MOTING (Mainz 05)
The Cameroon striker sparked Mainz's fightback in the last 10 minutes from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home to Hoffenheim. The 24-year-old came off the bench to drive home a cross on 82 minutes before Mainz midfielder Yunus Malli equalised.
ITALY
SAPHIR TAIDER (Inter)
After the midfielder's promising start to the season, Walter Mazzarri kept faith with Taider and the France-born Algerian international came close to giving Inter an early lead when he saw his drive saved by Roma keeper Morgan De Sanctis at the San Siro. Inter, however, were soon trailing and with a 3-0 deficit Mazzarri replaced Taider just before the hour.
SULLEY MUNTARI (AC Milan)
Muntari was one of the few bright lights for embattled Milan in a must-win clash away to Juventus, the Ghanaian midfielder giving the Rossoneri a 1-0 lead in the first minute thanks to quick reflexes and astute positioning. Milan were ultimately dominated and heading for a 3-1 defeat when Muntari reduced arrears in the 90th minute with a superb left-foot strike which had the hosts worried until the end.
KWADWO ASAMOAH (Juventus)
Asamoah was his usual solid self on the left wing for Antonio Conte's champions and, despite giving the odd ball away to Milan, the Ghanaian made a positive contribution to the Bianconeri's 3-2 win in Turin. Asamoah even came close to adding his name to the scoresheet when he saw a well-struck shot go wide after he had picked up his own rebound. He also just missed Christian Abbiati's net when he latched on to a cross from Paul Pogba.
RUSSIA
DAME N'DOYE (Lokomotiv Moscow)
The Senegalese striker finished off a cross two minutes after half-time to trigger a Lokomotiv revival that earned a 2-2 draw at Samara. N'Doye had another chance to score midway through the second half but was foiled by goalkeeper Jan Mucha.
MUBARAK WAKASO (Rubin Kazan)
The Ghana midfielder scored the opening goal and created the second as Rubin triumphed 5-1 at home to bottom side Anzhi Makhachkala. His goal came from a cross that deceived the goalkeeper.
IBRAHIMA BALDE (Kuban Krasnodar)
The Senegalese striker scored once and missed several other chances in a 2-2 home draw with Rostov. His goal came from close range two minutes after half-time from a cross.
SPAIN
BABA DIAWARA, NABIL EL ZHAR, PAPE DIOP (Levante)
Both Senegalese striker Baba and Moroccan winger El Zhar were on target for Levante against Real Madrid. Diop also played the full 90 minutes for the Valencian side but couldn't prevent Madrid scoring twice in stoppage time to snatch a 3-2 victory.
ALEX SONG (Barcelona)
Song played the full 90 minutes as Barcelona extended their 100 percent La Liga start to eight games. The Cameroonian put in one of his most assured performances since moving to the Catalans just over a year ago and completed all 102 of his passes.
