Atletico ponder SWP raid

Atletico Madrid are reportedly planning a January swoop for Chelsea's forgotten man Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The 24-year-old winger has started just twice for the Blues so far this season, having failed to reproduce the form of his Manchester City days since his £21million move to Stamford Bridge in July 2005.

It is believed Chelsea may now be prepared to consider allowing Wright-Phillips to move on in January, and Atletico are ready to renew their interest.

The Spanish side initially enquired about the England international during the summer transfer window, but were unable to negotiate an acceptable deal.

However, Atletico coach Javier Aguirre is desperate to add some width to his squad after losing Maxi Rodriguez and Martin Petrov to long-term injuries and reports in the Spanish press have suggested a loan offer for Wright-Phillips is in the offing.
