Ashley Cole to sign new Chelsea contract

The Times claims Cole has agreed a four-year deal on improved wages of £120,000 a week which he will sign early next week. Carlo Ancelotti, Chelsea's new manager will be relieved that the 28-year-old Cole has committed his future to Chelsea, as the England international was one of the club's stand-out players last season. Florent Malouda is also set to sign two-year contract extension next week. Meanwhile, Chelsea's deal to sell Ricardo Carvalho and Deco to Inter Milan is close to collapse after the Italian club demanded that they are allowed to sign both players for free. Inter had hoped to tempt Chelsea into a player-swap deal or a bid for either Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Maicon but the Premier League club has insisted that it wants £12 million cash for the Portuguese internationals. Both Deco and Carvalho have made clear that they want to leave Stamford Bridge and are furious that the moves have stalled. Inter are now turning their attentions to signing William Gallas from Arsenal, who may be sold for around £4 million, having indicated that with just one year left on his contract he is reluctant to discuss a new deal. However, Gallas has now insisted he is happy to stay at the Emirates.
