Arsenal v Chelsea live!

10 May 2009 15:21
90 + 2 ALL OVER! Chelsea secure third place in the Premier League with a 4-1 victory over London derby rivals Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. 90 ADDED TIME: There will be a minimum of two minutes added time. 87 That was Malouda's final involvement as Michael Ballack comes on. 86 GOAL MALOUDA (1-4)!!! Chelsea break and, after Anelka strikes against a post from an accute angle, Malouda, who had an initial shot blocked, slots in. 85 Adebayor wants a penalty again. He goes one-on-one with Cech, but takes off before colliding with the goalkeeper and Dowd decides it is not a penalty. Adebayor is lucky not to be booked for diving. It would have been a penalty if Adebayor had collided rather than taking off. 84 Chelsea are being made to sweat and their midfield is on top of their defence. But Arsenal have left themselves with too much to do. 83 A messy goalmouth scramble involving Silvestre sees Cech made a couple of saves before the ball goes behind for a goal-kick. 82 Adebayor is causing problems since his introduction and Arsenal win a corner. 79 Arsenal win another header as Van Persie has a nod at goal. However, the ball is straight at Cech. Van Persie did well, he was moving away from goal to reach the ball. 77 A shrewd move from Hiddink. Bosingwa - who has lost a couple of challenges with Bendtner - heads off to be replaced by Branislav Ivanovic. 75 Adebayor wants a penalty when challenging with Bosingwa, but referee Dowd is not interested. Correct decision. 74 Bendtner is clearly out to prove a point. The striker wins another header in the Arsenal box, however, the effort is straight at Cech, who catches with ease. 73 Chelsea win a free-kick 30 yards from goal. Alex and Lampard are over the ball and it is the latter who strikes, but the effort flies high. 72 The noise level has increased in the Emirates thanks to Bendtner's goal. Can Arsenal find a way back? 70 GOAL BENDTNER (1-3)!!! The substitute climbs high above the Chelsea defence to meet a Bacary Sagna cross and head in. Game on. 67 As Bosingwa lashes another one over the bar, Arsenal make more changes. Song heads off for Denilson, and Adebayor comes on for Walcott. 65 Chelsea break and Bosingwa has a glorious opportunity but, leaning back, the Portuguese defender scoops his half-volley over the bar. 64 Walcott charges at Terry when one-on-one but Essien has tracked back and clears the danger. 62 It is a period of keep ball for Chelsea in the heart of midfield. They are winding Arsenal up and I would not be surprised to see a few more Gunners players to go in the book before the end of the game. 60 Bendtner - who has been in the headlines over recent days - enters the fray as a replacement for Diaby. 58 Chelsea immediately move to the other end of the pitch and win their own corner. John Obi Mikel's effort is charged down on the edge of the box. 57 It is another corner for Arsenal. Chelsea half-clear to the edge of the box and Song finds Walcott, but the youngster fires another effort past the post. 56 Chelsea know the game is already as good as over and are happy to pass the ball about among their defenders and goalkeeper. Arsenal's supporters are silent as their players become increasingly frustrated. 54 Wenger's men are continuing to dominate, but they cannot score as Fabregas meets a Van Persie cross but Essien has tracked back well to apply pressure and force the Arsenal captain to shoot wide. 53 The Gunners win a free-kick and Fabregas has the chance to deliver into the box. However, Cech is off his line quickly to come through a crowd and claim the ball. 51 Arsenal - whose defending has been wretched - have a chance to respond immediately as Van Persie has a chance, but Cech is down low to his right to save. 49 OWN GOAL TOURE (0-3)!!! That is curtains, I would say. Cole breaks forward and crosses. Fabianski has wandered off his line and as Toure slides in to attempt to clear, the centre-back only succeeds in deflecting the ball into his own goal. A horrible, mess of a goal from Arsenal's point of view. 48 Jose Bosingwa almost plays Lampard in, but the pass is just a little over hit. A warning for Arsenal. 47 Cole is still receiving the treatment from the Emirates boo-boys. Arsenal will need a bright start if they are to get anything from this, but if they open up Chelsea have shown they are more than capable of taking advantage. 47 WE'RE BACK: Chelsea get the second half under way. Is there a way back for Arsenal? Luke Powell: "I think Arsenal have dominated but havn't taken there chances. Taking chances is what wins matches and Chelsea have certainly done just that." 45 + 2 HALF-TIME: Arsenal have dominated possession and territory but find themselves to goals behind to Alex's header and Anelka's low drive. Is there any way back for the Gunners or are Chelsea set to wrap up third place in the Premier League? Let me have your thoughts at peter.fraser@bskyb.com. 45 + 2 Should have been three. After a bundling run from Malouda the ball drops to Anelka 10 yards from goal, but with time and space the striker goes for a nutmeg and Fabianski saves. A waste, that would have been game over. 45 ADDED TIME: There will be a minimum of two minutes added time. Will we see Emmanuel Adebayor or Nicklas Bendtner in the second half? 43 Chelsea have shut up shop now as they look towards the interval. Arsenal appear to have run out of ideas as Kieran Gibbs lumps a hopeful, but pointless, ball into the box. 41 Arsenal look understandably shell shocked. But this has been a ruthlessly professional and clinical performance from Chelsea, which Wenger's side would be well advised to learn from. There will surely be changes at half-time for the Gunners as Walcott drags another attempt wide of the target. 39 GOAL ANELKA (0-2)!!! The former Arsenal player comes back to haunt his old club. The Gunners have dominated but as Anelka is offered time to run at the home back four when Nasri fails to tackle, the Frenchman unleashes a low swerving effort from 25 yards. Great goal! 37 Drogba gives away possession in the Arsenal box and the home side break. However, the Gunners are not clinical and another equalising opportunity goes begging. 34 Walcott wastes another good opportunity. Arsenal really need to improve in attack. They have been in excellent form in front of goal over recent weeks, but are sadly lacking today. 32 Fabregas, who was booked two minutes earlier, is fortunate to avoid a second caution as he piles into Malouda. 30 It could have been two for Chelsea. Malouda speeds into the Arsenal box and opts to pass when he could have shot. The Blues win a corner and Fabianski flaps before Arsenal eventually clear. 28 GOAL ALEX (0-1)!!! Drogba clips a free-kick into the penalty area and from 12 yards out Alex gets his head to the ball to nod in off the underside of the bar. A superb header and the Emirates is stunned. Arsenal pay for missed chances. 27 Chelsea look long for Anelka, but Mikael Silvestre has the pace to deal with the former Arsenal player. 25 Arsenal win a free-kick and Fabregas delivers into the box. After a bit of a scramble involving Diaby, Song prods wide. Are the Gunners missing their main attackers as the misses stack up? 23 Speaking of Fabianski, the general consensus is that he is 6'3''. However, I sense some Wikipedia use. Any official word? 21 It is almost time to call me Mystic Pete as, after being well found by Cole, Malouda has a great chance from eight yards. But the France winger puts his effort straight at Fabianski. A superb chance - wasted. 20 I have a feeling that, after Chelsea have been dominated for 20 minutes, they could pinch the opener. 18 Chelsea cannot keep the ball and are getting a bit of a pummelling as Walcott slots another effort wide. The Gunners could live to regret these missed chances. 16 We get a first real glimpse of Drogba as he charges back and bundles Kolo Toure off the ball. In a demonstration of Drogba's power, Toure goes flying. Looked like a foul, but referee Phil Dowd is not interested. 15 Arsenal are knocking on the door as Fabregas bursts into the box. However, the Spaniard cannot quite reach the ball as Cech gathers. 14 Abou Diaby wastes the best chance of the game so far as he side-foots wide from six yards having been well found in the box. Poor miss. 12 As Lukasz Fabianski takes the resulting goal-kick, a debate is raging in commentary HQ. How tall is the Arsenal shot-stopper? He looks strangely short. Without the use of wikipedia, how tall is the Arsenal shot-stopper? Answers on a postcard. 11 I spoke to soon. Lampard has a chance on the edge of the box. However, the midfield blasts over the crossbar. A sighter for the England star. 9 Frank Lampard and Michael Essien are struggling to get a hold of the ball in midfield for Chelsea. Therefore, the Blues' forwards are not getting any service. Drogba has been very quiet. 8 Arsenal win another corner as a superb reverse pass from Samir Nasri finds Walcott and Petr Cech is forced to save. The Chelsea goalkeeper also punches the ball clear from the following corner. 7 Walcott looks to be in the mood. The England international came in for criticism for his performance in the two legs against United and he looks intent on proving a few people wrong. Cole will have his hands full. 5 Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas over hits the corner as Van Persie and Song Billong are unable to reach the ball at the back post. 4 This has been a very impressive start from Arsenal. Chelsea are struggling to get a touch as Alex is forced to put behind for a corner when challenging Van Persie. 2 Ashley Cole is adjudged to have fouled Walcott as Arsenal continue to dominate the opening exchanges. Former Gunner Cole is offered a traditionally 'warm' reception from the Emirates Stadium crowd. 1 An excellent start from Arsenal as Theo Walcott drives into the Chelsea box. Unfortunately for the Gunners he blazes an effort over the bar. KICK-OFF!!! Arsenal get the game going. Let's hope for a fair but feisty encounter. Essentially, Arsenal have got to win or they are looking at going into the unseeded qualifiers for next season's Champions League. Kick-off is almost upon us. Don't forget you can drop me a line throughout the afternoon on any issue. All thoughts, opinions and jokes welcome at peter.fraser@bskyb.com. Chelsea fans, Dele Beckley especially, are very confident. Do not forget that Arsenal recorded a surprise victory at Stamford Bridge back in November. If you fancy a flutter... Arsenal are at 13/8, a draw is 9/4, and Chelsea are 17/10. Drogba is favourite to answer his critics and open the scoring. William Scott believes Arsenal have a weak team, but he expects the inexperienced Gunners to secure a 2-2 draw with a Robin van Persie brace and goals from John Terry and Florent Malouda - who has been excellent since the arrival of Hiddink - for Chelsea. Blues boss Guus Hiddink has just announced that he did not hesitate in selecting in-form striker Didier Drogba, who was at the heart of the post-match incidents against Barca, as Chelsea look to wrap up third spot. How will Drogba react? Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has sprung a few surprises with his team selection, but the absence of Andrey Arshavin in enforced as the Russian has the flu. Warren Betts is desperate for a win for the Gunners following their European exit to Manchester United. However, a host of fans are expecting Chelsea to bounce back after their controversial elimination to Barcelona. This promises to be a belting encounter. A derby and both the game is essentially a play-off for third place in the Premier League, and an automatic place in the UEFA Champions League. Let me have your thoughts on the game at peter.fraser@bskyb.com and I will publish a selection of the best.
