Anelka suffers toe woe
23 Mar 2009 - 13:54:43
Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka will spend the next three weeks on the sidelines with a toe injury.
He will miss France's World Cup qualification double-header against Lithuania as well as Chelsea's Champions League quarter-final first leg clash against Liverpool.
Les Bleus coach Raymond Domenech has brought Paris St Germain striker Guillaume Hoarau in to his squad to replace Anelka.
The French Football Federation confirmed on their official website: "Hoarau replaces Nicolas Anelka, who is suffering from an injured left big toe and is out of action for three weeks."
Meanwhile, Blues boss Guus Hiddink is determined to bounce back from the weekend defeat at Tottenham, a result which effectively ended his side's title hopes.
He said: "The priority is the next game. That is a cliche of course but, if you see the upcoming games now in April and May, these huge clashes must be so exciting for English fans.
"I won the European Cup as a very young manager with PSV and it would be the ideal scenario at the end, because I am getting a little bit grey, to get it with Chelsea again. That would be a dream fulfilled."
