Ancelotti wants pair to stay
20 Sep 2009 - 11:17:22
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has signalled his intention to keep hold of Joe Cole and Nicolas Anelka.
The duo have yet to be handed new deals despite a busy summer of contract renewals at Stamford Bridge which has seen the likes of Didier Drogba, Ashley Cole and John Terry all pledge their long-term futures to the club.
But despite speculation linking striker Anelka and midfielder Cole with potential moves, Ancelotti is keen to retain the pair.
England midfielder Cole was mentioned as a possible transfer target for Tottenham during the summer window.
"I don't speak with the players about the contract," said Ancelotti.
"But for me Joe Cole is a very good player and he has to stay in the club and so does Nicolas Anelka."
Chelsea may move swiftly to tie down the pair following the FIFA-imposed transfer ban which prevents them from signing any new players until January 2011.
