Ancelotti expecting Cole stay
23 Jan 2010 - 10:36:56
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is adamant that Joe Cole will still be at Stamford Bridge next season.
The England international is out of contract at the end of this season, fuelling speculation that he will be heading out of the club in the summer.
But after confirming that the former West Ham United midfielder would not be featuring in the FA Cup fourth round clash against Preston North End, ex-AC Milan boss Ancelotti said: "Joe Cole will be in the squad next year.
"The aim of the club is to keep him in the squad because he is an important player. He is a very professional player with a lot of quality and a player of the English national team.
"For this reason we want to keep him in the squad. I cannot guarantee to Cole he will play in Chelsea every game, I cannot guarantee that to any player. I never guarantee to play every game."
The 28-year-old has scored 82 goals in 262 matches for Chelsea since moving to the Blues from West Ham in the summer of 2003.
