Ancelotti: Win never in doubt
19 Aug 2009 - 07:56:56
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti claimed he never had any doubt that his side would run out winners over Sunderland following Tuesday's 3-1 victory at the Stadium of Light.
The Blues made it two wins from two Premier League goals this season despite trailing to a Darren Bent goal at half-time.
Second-half goals from Michael Ballack, Deco and a Frank Lampard penalty wrapped up three points for the visitors which were never in doubt, according to Ancelotti.
"I am very happy because we played very well," said the Italian.
"The first half we were behind, but the first half we had good control of the match, good possession of the ball, not a lot of shots, but total control of the game.
"Sunderland put in the first half a strong defence, with very good pressure and in the first half they ran a lot.
"But the second half they were tired and it was more difficult to control our play."
Meanwhile, Ancelotti believes that a refocused Deco could be a key player for the Blues this season despite being expected to join Internazionale earlier in the summer.
He added: "He is working very well now, he is very motivated to play and this is a very important season for him before the World Cup and tonight he played very well, both for him and for the team."
