Ancelotti: Anelka wants to stay
26 Jan 2010 - 16:26:11
Chelsea head coach Carlo Ancelotti is confident that striker Nicolas Anelka will still be at Stamford Bridge next season, despite reports of talks over a new contract having stalled.
The 30-year-old France international's current deal does not run out until the end of next season and Ancelotti expects an agreement to be reached in the near future.
The Italian commented: "I think that they are speaking with his agent and they will try to find the right solution for both the club and for him.
"I'm confident he'll sign. Anelka is a top player and this club needs to have a lot of top players. And so, it's the same question with Joe Cole.
"We want to keep him and he wants to stay. There will be a resolution.
"Anelka has told me he wants to stay. He's happy with me, he's happy to work with me, and I'm very happy to work with him. That's a wedding, no? We don't want to break up."
Anelka has scored 38 goals in 102 appearances for the Blues since his £15million arrival from Bolton Wanderers in January 2008.
