Ancelotti takes swipe at Ferguson by claiming Owen wouldn't play at Chelsea

Carlo Ancelotti says Michael Owen wouldn't stand a chance of breaking into his Chelsea team. Manchester United made a surprise move for the England cast-off last week, saving the former Newcastle and Liverpool striker from a move to the likes of Hull or Stoke. While Sir Alex Ferguson swooped after losing Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, Ancelotti says his squad was already too strong to accommodate free agent Owen. Why? 'Because now we have very good strikers in the team - (Didier) Drogba, (Nicolas) Anelka, (Salomon) Kalou,' said Ancelotti. Chelsea have signed a striker of their own: England Under 21 international Daniel Sturridge from Manchester City. 'Sturridge is a young player but he can potentially be a great striker,' said his Italian boss. 'Michael Owen is a great striker and at the moment is in a low period, but I think he is not an old player, he is young at 29. 'For sure Manchester United have lost two important players but United maintain a great team because they have a lot of good players and also have a tradition, and this is also important to build a team.'
