Boss Carlo Ancelotti was full of praise for in-form striker Didier Drogba last night, after his two goals earned Chelsea a 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid and a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

"He is in a good moment, I'm very happy, " said Ancelotti of the Ivorian hitman, who was making his first European appearance after serving a three-match ban for the red he received against Barcelona in last year's semi-final defeat.

"I hope he can continue. Didier is an important player for us. We have a lot of important players but he is doing very well and we are happy.

Champions League results:
Bayern Munich 0-2 Bordeaux
Maccabi Haifa 0-1 Juventus
Besiktas 0-3 Wolfsburg
Manchester United 3-3 CSKA Moscow
Marseille 6-1 FC Zurich
AC Milan 1-1 Real Madrid
Apoel Nicosia 0-1 FC Porto

"He was motivated at the start of the season and has been doing very well and continues to do very well, and I hope he can play in other games like he did against Atletico."

Chelsea top Group D with 10 points, with Porto on nine. Atletico are third with two points.

"We are in the next phase of the Champions League and this is important with two matches still to take place," added Ancelotti. "That was a difficult match because Atletico played very well and I think the result is good.

"They put a lot of pressure on us in first half but I think we did well - not the best but it was good."
